Identification: 25-60 inches; Shiny black with three red stripes down back; yellow below and on lower sides; belly has several rows of black spots; scales smooth.
Habit: Rainbow snakes are rarely seen since most spend their time in water or concealed within stream banks and root systems over hanging streams and rivers. Their diet is freshwater eels.
Distribution: The Florida Parishes.
Comments: Rainbow snakes are aquatic burrowers and are non-venomous.
